With my decision made regarding Lana, I finally had a clear head. I tackled a record number of tasks in the hour before the stand-up meeting. Feeling confident now that my fascination for Lana was a mere mental glitch, the thought of seeing her and Jack together at the meeting didn’t bother me in the slightest. That was, until my eyes landed on her in the conference room. In my seat.
I stood frozen at the doorway. She had her eyes glued to her laptop. A bunch of her curls had come loose from her tied-up hair. She looked adorably disheveled, even with the distressing frown affixed on her face. Though, what could be troubling her, I would never know. She only had one project that I knew of. And why wasn't she sitting with the other PMs at the main table? Could she have been like me and wanted to hide in the back? I quickly dismissed the idea. PMs always had to be front and center, leading the meetings. If she was anything like me, she would’ve rather die than take on a PM role.
I was eyeing her curiously when I felt a tap on my shoulder. “Tyler? Why are you just standing there?”
Dammit. It was Nick again. I hurried and stepped aside, letting him and a flurry of people in. I said nothing as he passed, ignoring his inquisitive stare.
My eyes darted back to Lana and to the chair she was occupying. Everyone typically liked to grab a seat at the table, leaving the back corner seat for me. What was she hoping to achieve by avoiding everyone? That no one would notice her not participating?
I marched on over to find out. “What are you doing here?”
